Live Stargazing Event – Tuesday 12th February 2019 5.45pm – 8.30pm

Tuesday 12th February, 5.45pm – 8.30pm

Join us at the Café for an Astronomy Masterclass hosted by expert Astronomer Paul Fellows MA FIET FRAS
£25 per person to include a hot main course
5.45pm arrival for 6pm live stargazing outside (please wear warm clothes)
6.45pm supper followed by 7.30pm talk inside the Café. Event ends at 8.30pm.

Learn how to navigate the constellations and to recognise the principle stars, planets and other objects. Observe these using a number of different telescopes under guidance from Paul. Find the Moon, Mars, Uranus, the Constellations and The Great Orion Nebula. There will be a break for a warming supper provided by the Creake Abbey Café, followed by a lecture on the discovery of planets outside the Solar System.

If stargazing outside is not possible due to the weather it will be replaced with an indoor screen ‘planetarium’ so that Paul can take you on a virtual tour.

Paul Fellows is chair of the Cambridge Astronomical Association and presenter of the public open nights at the Cambridge University Institute of Astronomy. In 2005 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society. The images above (of Earth’s Moon and The Orion Nebula) and all the images in Paul’s presentation are his own, taken from his back-garden observatory.

A one-course supper is included. All drinks, dessert, coffee & tea can be purchased as additional items.
